The great thing about the National
Football League is that when the season starts you can honestly make an
argument for a majority of the teams to win it all that year. Many times
the Superbowl Champion is not the team that had the best season, but is
the team that peaked at the right time and put it all together at the
end of the NFL season. The trick of betting NFL futures and predicting
the 2009 Superbowl winner, is picking which one of those NFL teams is
going to bring together their offense, their defense, and their coaching
and administrative and make it a reality.

Straight Bets, Parlays, Teasers...
Brief explanation of the different types of bets to wager on football (NFL).
Straight Bets
The team wagered on must win by the point spread given at the time of the wager. For straight wagers, unless otherwise indicated, the odds are $1.10 to win $1.00. Games that tie are considered "no action" and money is re-deposited back into your account. Due to changing events, the point spread may fluctuate at any time.
Totals (also known as Over/Under bets)
The combined score of both teams for games wagered on, all totals lay $1.10 to win $1.00 unless it is otherwise indicated.
Money Line Wagers
The team wagered on just has to win the game. The amount you lay or take for each game may vary. The money line that is read to at the time of your wager is the money line you keep regardless of any line movement.

Super Bowl
XLII Champion NY Giants
For the first time in seventeen years, the NY Giants team is back
on top again.
The Giants had the perfect answer for the suddenly imperfect
Patriots: a big, bad defense and an improbable comeback led by
their own Mr. Cool quarterback, Eli Manning.
In one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history, New York
shattered New England's unbeaten season 17-14 Sunday night as
Manning hit Plaxico Burress on a 13-yard fade with 35 seconds
left. It was the Giants' 11th straight victory on the road and the
first time the Patriots tasted defeat in more than a year.

Super Bowl History
After the 1966 season the AFL and NFL agreed to start having championship game. The AFL and NFL also agreed In 1971 that they would merge into a single league.
Formally called the AFL-NFL Championship, it was soon nicknamed the Super bowl. According to one story, a team owner who thought the formal title was--well, too formal--came up with the new name while watching his grandson play with a super ball. That's probably apocryphal. The truth seems to be that some sportswriter invented the tag and it was immediately picked up by others and then by the NFL.
Since Super bowl V, in 1971, the trophy presented to the winning team has been known as the Vince Lombardi Trophy, after the man who coached the Packers to the first two championships. Lombardi died of cancer in September of 1970.
